Golden Gopher sophomore Alicia Rue won the pole vault at the Minnesota Open on Saturday, clearing 13 feet, 5 1/4 inches to smash the previous school record by over three inches. Rue thrived on the competition at the meet that featured three vaulters better 13 feet. Andrea Smith, who held the old Minnesota record at 13-1 3/4, neared her career best mark by placing third with a vault of 13-1 1/2. Both Rue?s and Smith?s marks are NCAA provisional qualifiers.
