Husband-wife coaching combo transforms University of Minnesota into a pole vaulting power

The Gophers credit the husband-wife coaching combo of Steve and Caroline White for transforming their track teams into a pole vaulting power.

A gray Honda Accord pulled up next to Bierman Track and Field Stadium on Saturday and out came 14-month-old Henry White with a three-foot-long fiberglass pole in hand.

It was a makeshift miniaturized vaulting pole, cut from a longer version. And the perfect toy for the son of Steve and Caroline White, coaches of men's and women's pole vault at the University of Minnesota.

Could this be a future pole vault champion?

"He likes to play with it, so we'll see," said Caroline, who coached through her pregnancy last year. "We'll let him do whatever he wants."

The Whites admit that having a son has "changed everything" for them in many ways, but they've still been able to feverishly
