Great discussion. This got me interested in how MN stacks up against the rest of the country. The website polevaultpower.com has a list of the nation-wide records, both boys and girls. Looks like we have some work to do!

Since the national 8th grade record by Tommy Skipper of 15-6 is one inch lower than our state record I would completely agree with you.

As far as the girls go, we are doing well with a few over 12 and two over 13.

I was talking with Steve recently and we were trying to come up with ideas why we haven't had a 16' guy yet.  I would love to hear everyone's opinions.  We've had plenty of kids go 16+ post HS.

Updated with 2008 statistics.

Anyone have any ideas as to who we don't have any HS boys go over 16' in HS?  I am thinking it is because kids don't seem to train and focus on the vault year round.

For example, kids like Spandl and Gierut went 16+ pretty quickly once they got to college and focused on it year round.
