General Pole Vault Discussion / Do you need a Coach?
March 11, 2004, 11:51:14 PM
YOU NEED A VAULT COACH---WE ARE AVAILABLE TO COACH

Here's the idea...

You call us up and request (1) or more days.  For $100 (typical head coach pay) one of us shows up and coaches just you, or all the vaulters on your team for one 2-3 hour practice.  We will give you information (handout) on technique, diagnosis, corrections, poles, training, and more.  We will coach you until you are tired, or up to 3 hours.  If you bring a video camera, we will film you and discuss the video as well.  We would like it if a coach or parent was there as well, so others can hear and discuss the ideas we show.

We only available a couple days per week, and there is a huge demand, so contact us soon.  Our goal is to help out as many schools as possible.

General Pole Vault Discussion / training and diet
March 01, 2004, 07:16:53 PM
I agree with Chris
--Start running (alternate jogging one day, 200m or 400m sprints the next day)
--Start lifting your body in all directions (squats, push-ups, handstand push-ups, pull-ups, anything gymnastic)
--Eat as much fruit vegies as you like.  Stop eating crap, or at the very least, cut back (Pizza pop McDonalds etc)

Don't try to do too much activity too soon, or you'll start the season injured.

The "two-weeks" part of your question is what makes it tough.  Being an excellent athlete is a long-term commitment.  Ideally changing from being a spectator to athlete should take 6 weeks to 6 months depending on how long the person was spectating.  Every year the ability to regain conditioning after periods of inactivity becomes more difficult.

Do well, Be careful, and good luck

Steve
