Men's Track sails to 23rd MIAC title in row

St. Thomas got victories from seven different athletes and scored in 17 of 20 events to claim its 23rd conference men's team title in the 23-year history of the event. The two-day MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championshps concluded Saturday at St. Olaf's Tostrud Center.

St. Thomas scored 205 points to top runner-up St. John's (124) by 81. Hamline (104), Bethel (70), Carleton (65) and Gustavus (58) placed 3-4-5-6.

The 23 consecutive team titles is the longest team championship streak in MIAC history. The Toms' average winning margin in the 23-year streak is an amazing 87 points. They've won by 30 or more points and scored at least 179 points in 21 of the 23 indoor meets. St. Thomas has also won 21 of the last 24 MIAC outdoor team championships.

Tommie senior Matt Schroeder broke a 24-year-old meet record in the pole vault with a winning height of 16-3 1-4. Other Saturday wins came from Joe DeFrance in the 200 meters (22.60) and Matt Boumeester in the 1000 (2:33.69).
