Team Flight Deck / RENO DETAILS
January 23, 2006, 01:17:19 AM
If you are bringing FDA poles/bags to reno...you must duct-tape towels to the ends of the bags.  TMA will probably want to go inside the bags at the airport, and inspect the poles.  So we will plan on taping the towels on the bags at the airport.

You may want the towels to be OLD, UGLY, and of an UNUSUAL COLOR.  That way you will be able to easily identify them among the thousands of bags at the hotel.

You will need $5-$10 to have the bag trucked from the Reno airport to the hotel, and another $5-$10 to get them back to the airport.

Let me know if there are questions

Camps / 2006 Winter Camp at SJU--a no-go for now
December 27, 2005, 12:56:55 AM
We are still attempting to eliminate existing barriers in order to offer the 6th annual Flight Deck Winter Pole Vault Camp at St John's.  We are trying for a 4-sunday schedule which would precede the Minnesota high school season.

Unfortunately, at this time, we are a no-go for the camp.

If we can get the go-ahead, the soonest we would be able to be vaulting is Feb 5.  We should know definitively by Jan 15th

Sorry for any inconvenience

--HEY COLLEGE VAULTERS--
do you want a part-time job, coaching vault on a limited basis, getting paid to critique vaulters?  Well step up and live the dream--get paid to talk vault.

The programs below are looking for coaching in the greatest of all events.  As the season gets closer they will become increasingly desperate.  They cannot offer you tons of money--all HS programs are broke.  However, they can offer you limited hours/days for that money.  Some coaching being better than none...they may say yes to coaching every Thursday for instance--typically not a big college training day.  You get the idea.

I have called this "consulting" in the past.  I have charged $100 per day--which is typical of head coaching wages.

Eden Prairie, Bruce Kivimaki is the head coach and the contact
--6 days per week preferred
--$ 3,500
--Both genders

Visitation Academy, (by the airport)  Dave Bauer is the jumps coach and the contact.
--5 days TOTAL
--$ 500
--Coaching the ladies only

Team Flight Deck / RENO Pole Vault Summit
October 03, 2005, 08:48:22 PM
NWA airline tickets are $383 online currently (10/3)
Reno registration can be done online too
---be sure to indicate Flight Deck as your club and request that we all sit together for the elite competition.

Plan on Pole transportation costing each person $100 (usually it is less).
--we will split the cost of parking for the cars that transport multiple bags of poles
--If you want to drive poles to and from the airport this year, let Caroline know

Probably want to coordinate room sharing--probably work that out with Milton.

I am already registered and have tickets
Talk to you soon

Team Flight Deck / Fall Team Practice Schedule
September 01, 2005, 02:31:59 PM
Hello Team FDA,
This is just to catch you all up on the fall details.  We will begin our fall schedule this Saturday.  We are still on hold for the UofM, but we are hopeful for Tuesday nights, for vaulting, running, and lifting there.  For now, we will keep training at St Thomas (UST) and St John's (SJU).  Each UST ID can bring a guest into the weightroom--we will need all you alums to at least bring your old ID in case they question the non-alums.  I think we have (5) IDs between us, now that I am a student.  This will only matter for a short time, until even our guests are recognized as regulars.

For now, this is the way it stands:
Sun (UST) 12noon, running and lifting (outdoors for as long as possible, 1pm if bad weather)
Mon jog on your own
Tue (UST) 5:30pm, running and lifting
Wed (UST) 5:30pm, running and lifting
Thu jog on your own
Fri off
Sat (SJU) vaulting, running, high bar, and PIZZA & BEER AFTER

The SJU football home-game schedule is below:
Sept. 17 Carleton Collegeville 1 p.m.
Oct. 1 Hamline (Homecoming) Collegeville 1 p.m.
Oct. 22 Augsburg (Family Weekend) Collegeville 1 p.m.
Oct. 29 St. Olaf Collegeville 1 p.m.

On these weekends, we will not be able to get into the fieldhouse until 5:30pm pm later.  On these days, I suggest meeting at my house in Crystal at 4:30 and carpooling from there--gas prices being what they are.

When SJU has away games--we can go when we want.  In the past, our team members have typically chosen to vault earlier (like 1pm), so Saturday evening is available for family and social festivities.  Again, carpooling should be obvious.  So we should all talk to find preferences and reach an agreement.

Until we get into the UofM, we will bring the poles up to SJU and leave them there--so on-going pole-transportation should not be necessary.

To go higher, sometimes just takes another attempt--without any changes.  Usually it take an additional (or improved) investment of time and effort.  Ready to re-load for Indoors?

Call me if you have questions or suggestions.
Talk to you soon

Team Flight Deck / Armstrong Pole Vault Meet Format
July 08, 2005, 04:53:51 PM
7/27 THIS WEDNESDAY...WE ARE PLANNING ON A TRUE MEET STYLE
--Many people are planning on attending.  Bar heights should cover 6' opening through 16'.  Single mulligan still allowed.  WE WILL START THE MEET AT 5:15, so be ready

Wednesday evenings
The pit opens at 4:00pm--many come early to warm-up--but the poles wont be out, nor the cover off the pit until 4:00pm
The Competition will begin at 5:15pm
Depending on the number of participants, we will run a traditional meet, or a 6-bar meet--Traditional meet is preferred if there is enough people.  6-Jump meet preferred of small numbers
In the event of a 6-jump meet, the pit closes at 8pm--whether all vaults are done or not--the mosquitos are too thick after 8pm
We pay workers to run the meet--two or three workers place all crossbars, place standards, run the clip-board.
Individuals start their own meet when they are ready--we can run every bar over an 8' spread at the same time--some may be competing while others are still warming-up while still others are done.
Each vaulter pays $10 cash that day--we need the cash that day to pay the workers that day--like a movie theater...pay before you get in.
Modified Format--We will run your competition as a real meet with the following exceptions.  Each vaulter gets a single Mulligan.  Each vaulter gets a minimum of (6) competition bars.
All poles are included--you can see the list of poles at the following link--http://forums.flightdeckathletics.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6--you dont need to bring any poles.
--if you damage a pole--you will be expected to buy it at wholesale cost.
--If a crossbar gets broken--I pay for that.

We typically go for pizza after and all are welcome

Hello Team
The meet at the St Thomas starts at 5:30 on Thursday 7/7
Warm-ups will be 4:30 (plan on getting there by 4:15pm so WE can move pits for wind etc--many hands make light work)
We will need to leave Armstrong with poles by 3:45pm.  I plan on being at Armstrong at 3:30 to load poles...

--POLES--

If you are going to the meet, you need to call me to arrange poles
I am planning on bringing (2) bags right now
----one for me--(185s and 190s)
----one for my very skinny wife--her own poles
----Large FDA bag (13' poles)

Monica--Bringing her own bag--her own poles
Sam--Bringing the (175s and 180s)

Who else is jumping?
Who else is bringing poles?
--Me, Milton, Monica, Jamie, Paul, Pat, Chae, and Janet have carried poles in the past.
The poles need to be returned to Armstrong by Sunday for FDA practice

--Remember that if you participate and don't bring poles on your car, it is our tradition to give $5 to the driver of the poles you used.  This has always seemed the fair thing to do, given the gas costs and the extra hour or more lost in getting and returning the poles. (By the way, if ever you want to bring Caroline's poles and my poles, I will certainly pay you the $5 per bag so I don't have to worry about anything--like the membership fees, this tradition is for literally everyone)

Talk to you soon

Congrats to all the Flight Deck vaulters and coaches on a great season of vaulting (except the weather).

19 state competitors are currently or formerly coached by Flight Deck coaches at high schools or camps!
--an additional (5) competitors are already enrolled for their first FDA camp this summer.
--not bad for a single club
